Kaniki Clothing was founded in the 1990s, following a trip to Kenya. It was here that we found our friends at Bombolulu, a co-operative offering employment to physically disabled Kenyans. Impressed by their enthusiasm and commitment to their members, we asked them to make a line of sisal bags for us and were delighted with the quality of their work. So were our customers, who asked us to stock other similar products.

We began to search for small businesses and co-operatives across the world who could make beautiful, high-quality clothes and were obviously committed to their staff and community. We visited potential partners' workshops to ensure that they provide good working conditions and take a broader view of their responsibilities.

Over the years we travelled to Africa, Asia and South America and found partners in places ranging from Kenya and Peru to India and Nepal. All of them have one thing in common - they care about their products and their social responsibilities - and so do we.

Expanding from our retail outlets in Bath, we have now created this website, aiming to reach new customers and to provide existing customers with greater access to our products. So, if you like what we do, please spread the word to your friends and colleagues - because as we grow, so do our partners.

A mixture of contemporary and timeless classics, our clothes and accessories are designed to meet the tastes and fashions of the UK market. They are enhanced by our partners, who add their ideas, know-how and local materials to make them the comfortable, beautiful and original items we love to sell. Their input and our radical designs are what make our products unique and differentiate us from the high-street chain stores.

At present, the products we offer are predominantly drawn from the Uttam label (our partner from Nepal) and from our own label, which we are expanding to complement our launch of this site and to act as an umbrella for our partners' products.

Our range is updated twice a year to include our Autumn/Winter and Spring/Summer collections, although year-round sellers and popular lines will remain. Other items are added as they become available and some prices reduced to help you find that perfect bargain.
